Krystian Bala is a Polish murderer. He abducted, tortured and killed Polish businessman Dariusz Janiszewski, a man who he believed to be sleeping with his ex-wife. The case remained unsolved for several years to the frustration of Polish investigators, until a detective stumbled upon a novel written by Krystian Bala entitled Amok. Amok had some very strange things in common with the murder of Dariusz Janiszewski. A few too many things to be mere coincidence.
Kristian Bala. Krystian Bala is a Polish author who is serving a 25-year sentence for abducting, torturing and killing Dariusz Janiszewski, a brutal crime which he wrote about in his lightly fictionalized novel, Amok. In Amok, the protagonist, a villain, successfully gets away with kidnapping, dismembering and murdering a woman.
In real life. In real life, Bala did not target his ex, but rather the man he believed was sleeping with his ex. Detectives considered the murder of Dariusz Janiszewski to be a crime of passion. In the novel, the villain gets away with kidnapping, mutilating and murdering a young woman.
Caught and convicted. Unlike the main character of Amok, Bala was caught and convicted, though it was seven years after the disappearance of Janiszewski, an advertising executive, whose death baffled detectives until they read the book. Bala was able to evade police for several years prior to his arrest, all the while following coverage of the case in the media.
