Edward Hunter is an American Journalist who worked in Japan and China from the 1920s-1930s and served as a “propaganda specialist” during World War II. During the Korean War when the Chinese would capture American soldiers and attempt to “re-educate” them, they used a very regimented process that he called “brainwashing.” It was the first use of the term, but it would go on to become a fixed part of the vernacular as brainwashing become a method used by regimes, religious movements and many others.
