Joao Paulo is a Brazilian tattoo artist from Rio de Janeiro. He lives in New York City where he works from his private studio, Acqua Santa Tattoo. His early passion for creative arts, especially music, has pointed him into his love for tattooing and painting. JP is mostly inspired by the connection that exists between the artist and those they tattoo, the collaboration and the life exchange that cannot be broken. JP has worked alongside many great names, many places in the globe and continuously studies the great works of Japanese Tattooing, Black Work based on Tribal Elements and New Techniques. Named in 2010 among the top 100 most influential Brazilians in New York by Vogue Magazine, in the past six years alone João Paulo has collected over 16 awards across some of the most reputable tattoo conventions in New York, Barcelona and Washington DC.
Acqua Santa is the truly representation of Joao Paulo Rodrigues’s soul. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro around magic nature, mountains, rivers, blessed oceans, waterfalls and untouched jungles, he comes from all the ancient spirits mixed with the modern world brought from the old continent resulting on his passion for different cultures, myths and rituals inspiring the imagination of this artist. Believing in this ideology he built in New York City a small temple with all this connection and energy.
Acqua Santa is a character unto itself. It is always developing, built brick by brick as each tattooer and each tattooed who cross its threshold create new memories, special moments that will always remain, just as if they had been inked onto one’s skin.
