Activist. In May he worked with deaf activist Nyle Dimarco, an actor and the first deaf winner of America’s Next Top Model. The duo filmed a video together where they discussed what life is like as queer, deaf people. They also taught viewers “a few queer signs.”
Take Notice. Designers have taken notice of Chella and reached out to him. This Spring he walked the runway for ASOS at New York Fashion Week: Men’s. In fact, he was the only transmasculine person to do so. After the show, when he was told this, his response was shocked.
Diverse. For the spring 2018 there were 45 different castings for trans models and four for nonbinary. Fashion is slowly becoming more diverse but it’s currently far more accepting of transfeminine presenting models. Hopefully seeing people like Chella, Benjamin Melzer, and Laith Ashley will change that.
