Periods are one of those things that women in general just don’t like talking about. Society wants us to keep periods out of sight and out of mind, so free bleeding was out of the question for a lot of us. Most of us were just trying to avoid any accidents and get through the five to seven most dreaded days of the month with shreds of our dignity. So when everyone suddenly started talking about free bleeding, I had to admit I was a little surprised. Sure, I knew that many women were going without feminine hygiene products all over the world, but free bleeding by choice seemed a bit out there to me. However, there are lots of women who decided to free bleed for a period or two just to see what it was like. There are many reasons why women decide to do this, from raising awareness about the lack of feminine hygiene products worldwide, to just getting more comfortable with the idea of their periods on a personal level, to any other reason in between. There’s also underwear that actively encourages women to free bleed, so there isn’t a better time to try free bleeding than now. Here’s how women are challenging the idea that periods should never be talked about or seen.
